they all died because a huge ass bomb was dropped to kill the monster
lots of fire and explosions in the last scene...that plus the opening line about what was "formally central park" leads me to believe they finally manned up and dropped a diesel bomb

It's not Godzilla, it's more like the alien invasion type film.

theres plenty of movies about important characters and character development. it would have been nice to have a well done movie that is all about the monster for once

I say, go see it as its a great movie, but you may LOVE it, or you may totally dislike it.
Personally I enjoyed it, but the all of the unanswered questions made it a bad sad at the end, almost like an unfinished movie. Regardless GO SEE IT!!!

i agree they nvr told u wth the monster was..nvr told why if u get bit by the crabs they have to kill you how the hell did the monster jump up and knock the helicopter down... i think it would have been a better movie if they just used the smoke monster combined with the polar bear from lost that wuld be so epic

I think they were parasites on the monster but they don't really tell you anything about the monster

Well, the only way I can think of them explaining the monster would have involved HUD randomly running into a scientist who yammered on about where it came from.
As far as I see it it's fine without telling the audience about the monster as, technically, it was a day in the lives of twenty-something party goers.
Albeit a bad day.
A very bad day.

If anyone knows the Castlevania series of video games and the boss Legion, that is what reminds me of this movie's "creature".

Cloverfield sucked! I got to see it for free though because the manager gave everyone in the theater a refund, because the manager got that many complants.
-The camera was EXTREMELY shaky, made it very blurry in certain parts and made you dizzy.
-You rarely got to see the monster. You saw the main monster maybe 3 minutes during the whole movie.
-The little scorpion spawn things are lame, they attack you like regular scorpions and when you get bitten by them you turn into one. How original.
-So boring, the majority of the movie was them running and hiding... They sit in the subway for like 10 minutes doing nothing. Then they spend 10 more minutes walking down the subway tracks. Then they spend 5 minutes in a little room. Then they spend 10 minutes in a little store yelling at each. Then they spend 10 more minutes getting to this girls apartment room. It was very boring.

There's a sound clip after the credits that says "It's still alive" when played backwards.

Hah, I can see the resemblance! Now, if it was legion that was terrifying the city, 5000 awesome points for orb of bodies.

No shit. It was from the perspective of someone with a handheld camera. If you looked at anything about the movie before seeing it you would have known this.

They make you explode, not turn into one.

If you had a monster that was ~10 stories high and dropped aggressive little bastards all over the place that made you explode chasing you whenever it saw you, you'd be hiding a lot as well.

Man i loved the movie, it just starts and finishes. If they made a sequel it was suck pretty bad in my opinion. A lot different from the other movies. All u see through is a single portable camera, pretty cool.

spoilers:
hey Bryant Again, i saw that splash too. it was really weird but it probably was the oil rig falling. I also noticed that the video started at 6:42 am and ended then too, at least i am 90% it started like that but i am 100% sure thats when it ended.
still spoilers:
anyway i liked it overall, it was really really cool and that girl was like the creepiest part when she blew up and her eyes were bleeding. i WAS kind of dizzy at the end, and when they were walking those flights of stairs to get to the top of the building, i found that my head was tilted sideways and i looked retarded.
END OF SPOILERS:
I recommend it cause it is just one of those movies that you should just see even though it got mixed reviews. I liked it personally, but you will either like it or love it, as said by someone else here already.
